What is an earthquake?
As we have been seeing for the last several days,
earthquake tremors are felt in many places. Strong and light tremors of
earthquake have been felt at different places in the last several days, the
most severe earthquake outbreak was seen in Turkey. Let us know why earthquake
tremors are felt again and again. What causes earthquake?
What is an earthquake?
Earthquake in simple language means - Earth's vibration.
Earthquake is called shaking of the earth's surface. It generates energy waves
in the Earth's lithosphere, which spread in all directions and cause
earthquakes.
Why do earthquakes happen?
The Earth is situated on tectonic plates and beneath it
is liquid lava. The plates collide with each other, due to repeated collisions,
the corners of the plates get muddled. Plates break due to high pressure, due
to breaking, the energy released from below finds a way out towards the
outside, due to which earthquake occurs.
Earthquakes are also caused by humans, the way trees are
cut day by day. Earth is being excavated, buildings are being prepared, due to
all this the balance of nature deteriorates, due to which we feel earthquake
tremors again and again.
Effects of earthquake :-
1. Earthquake
2. Surface anomaly
3. Landslide
4. Currency Liquor
5. Tilting of the ground to one side
6. Avalanche
7. Surface displacement
8. Flood due to breach of dam and embankment
9. Catch fire
10.Cracking of buildings and collapse of structures
11.Falling Objects
12.Tsunami
How is the intensity of an earthquake measured?
Earthquakes are measured with a seismic instrument, which
is called a seismograph. The initial point of origin of earthquake is called
center or hypocentre.
